KIROTV.com - News - National Guardsman Brutally Attacked In Pierce County
I hope when the police catch up to these scumbags, they resist arrest, so the cops can beat the living shit out of them.
I watched ABC News' special report on seven ways the world could end last night. The first six were entertaining. The gamma burst scenario was spooky; the idea that the closest object that could do this is 8000 light years away, and that's more than close enough to end all life on earth was startling. Less convincing was the rogue black hole eating the solar system, although the description of being sucked into a black hole given by their astro physicist while he all but drooled in anticipation was, shall we say, different.
Then came supervolcano eruption, asteroid strike, nuclear holocaust, pandemic disease and biowar, and finally, number one on the list of top ways to end the world:
Global Warming.
They started this segment with impeccable scientific evidence of human caused warming: a trucker who said he is seeing armadillos (ARMADILLOS?!!??!?) in places he's never seen them before (where? in truck stop men's rooms?), and a lady who is disturbed that her Japanese anemones aren't blooming at the right time any more (maybe you over/under fertilized them, dearie? maybe a tree has changed the light exposure they get? maybe you're off your meds and think Truman is still president?). Continuing this scintillating display of pure science, they had exactly two scientists(?) on before they turned the show over to the biggest GW huckster on the freaking planet, Al (it's getting warm in here) Gore, who said outright that any scientist who was sceptical about human origins of climate change had been paid off by fossil fuel interests to lie. It went down hill from there.
So an interesting hour and forty-five minutes was just a run-up to a purely propagandistic segment of corporation bashing and enviro-whoring, starring the biggest enviro-whore of all.
I turned it off, regretting missing the reruns on NBC.
But hardly anyone disagrees that global warming is occurring.

Big surprise that our sleazy male model is caught in a lie.
Our World: The Olmert government must go | Jerusalem Post
Israel went up against a determined enemy dedicated to their destruction, with nothing less than their continued survival at stake, and they backed down.
If the people of Israel do not take steps immediately to remove the incompetent Olmert government and put in place one that understands what's at stake and how to deal with it, their existence as a nation is in serious doubt.
Israel has lost their first war. A nation that must never lose any of their wars has lost this one. Hizballah will be rearmed and back in south Lebanon before the new year, probably with better, longer range missiles with bigger payloads.
When Hizballah has missiles that can reach Tel Aviv, that can be accurately targeted, what are you going to do? Condi Rice won't be able to save you from what's coming.
Israel has become like America, and lost the will to do what is necessary to survive. America can postpone the final day because of the oceans that separate us from our enemies. Israel's enemies share borders with her.
We should start planning on how to deal with a middle east that has no Israel in it, and how we will respond to a Muslim-led holocaust.
I hope that as Israel goes down, they use their nuclear weapons against all the Arab capitals that have warred against them all these years.
4:30 AM. Entryway light is still on, which means my son hasn't come in yet. Or has he? A noise may be him bumping around in his room, sometimes he forgets to turn out the light when he comes in. I listen, silence. Not home then.
I lie in bed, wondering where he is. I debate for a while on getting up, not wanting to wake my wife.
4:45 AM. I get up, taking the cellphone with me. My wife wakes, wants to know what's wrong. "Nothng", I say. I go into the kitchen to call him. She follows, asking why I'm up, realizing he's not home.
I call his cell, no answer. I repeat this ritual for another 30 minutes, call, get voice mail, hang up. No answer. "Where was he going?" she asks. He was going out to play pool with friends, I begin to have dark visions in the corners of the mind that I suppress for now. I call a few more times. No answer.
"You have to go look for him", she says. I say I don't know where I would start, but get dressed. I drive to the pool hall, closed. I drive by his friend's, his girlfriend's, no car. It's getting on to 6 AM and no idea where he is. I start imagining what may have happened. There's a place on the other side of the city he went to once and liked, did he go there? It's fine during the day but has a reputation of a rough crowd later. I start seeing his car on the side of the freeway, wrecked out. I imagine him lying in the back of a poolhall parking lot, bleeding. Where is he?
I go home. His mother meets me at the door, frankly worried. "He's never done this before", she says. I know, I say.
I am becoming convinced that the reason he doesn't answer is because he can't answer. I wonder how our lives are going to change in the next ten minutes, ten hours, ten days.
I call again. He answers, sounding sleepy. Where the hell are you, I ask. At a friend's house nearby. He fell asleep on their sofa.
He's angry that we were so worried about him. I tell him he has to be in before 11 the rest of this week. "You treat me like a child", he says. You are my child. An adult doesn't stay out all night without letting his family know he's all right. Someday you'll know what we've been through. Pray it turns out okay, like tonight.
Don't ever do this to us again.
Good night.
From Jerry Pournelle: Current View
I hope it is consolation for all those who are trying to go about their business and standing in 9 hour lines to get on airplanes without a water bottle or a book or a magazine. We should all feel good about how generous we are. The consolation is about all we will get for doing all this.
But we have diversity, and that's really neat, and we all ought to be proud.
USATODAY.com - Landis fires back at cycling hierachy
Here's my take:
1. Floyd won it, no matter how much that pisses off the French,
2. Greg Lemond should shut the fuck up. You're a loser Greg, and all the bitching about better riders won't change that one bit. So have the grace to shut up.
